Our lessons start with what we like to call "het Veterstrik Diploma" (Dutch for "shoelace diploma."). Just as shoelaces keep your shoes together, the technical basics hold DJing together. If you are still a novice we start with learning how to listen, count, beatmatch or dropmix.

One of the fundamental skills every DJ must master is the art of seamlessly mixing tracks together. It's like painting a musical canvas where each track is a unique color, and your job is to blend them into a harmonious masterpiece.

The technical steps start with counting beats and bars in each track, ensuring you understand their underlying rhythm. Once you've got a grasp on the timing, you move on to beatmatching, where you adjust the tempo of the incoming track to match that of the playing track. This requires precise control of pitch or tempo sliders, and a keen ear to listen for any discrepancies.

As the beats align, you use headphones and cue points to preview the incoming track in your headphones, ensuring it's in sync and ready to seamlessly replace the currently playing one.

Timing is crucial here, as you prepare to transition by gradually adjusting the volume and EQ settings to create a smooth and natural flow.

These are the technical steps, but what truly elevates a DJ's mixing is the ability to read the energy of the crowd and select tracks that not only match in tempo but also complement each other harmonically and tonally.
